Re: EIS for Coal Train Terminal in Longview

I oppose the construction of this and any other facility for handling more coal. Coal is a serious problem, and its use for energy no longer justifies the terrible price we pay in destruction of upland and marine habitats and the steady deterioration of world climate. Proponents claim it will create jobs, but at the same time it will destroy the jobs of fishermen and farmers whose environments are damaged because of coal spills and climate change and the change in rainfall patterns that result from decreased seasonal snowfall. It will damage water supplies in the areas downstream from the stripmines. It will compromise air quality where it is mined as well as where it is burned.

Using coal as an energy source is an anachronism in a world where the greatest threats come from climate change and failed countries. In the name of our children and their descendants, I urge you to take a position against permitting coal to be routed across the state of Washington.

Sincerely, Rayna Holtz 12509 SW Cove Rd. Vashon, WA 98070 (King County)
