U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Washington Department of Ecology representatives, Idaho communities should be included in the environmental review of the Millennium Bulk Terminal. The impacts of this proposal will stretch from the coal mines in Montana to Longview, Wash. Not only will the trains be an inconvenience to commuters, they can also affect emergency response times. In the bigger picture - Coal dust escapes coal cars and, combined with diesel particulates from train engines, could diminish the health of our children and families who live along the railroad tracks. Coal dust can also weaken the railroad tracks, increasing the risk of derailments.

The cumulative impacts of this and other coal export proposals should be considered.
