Nov 11, 2013

U.S. Corps of Engineers

Dear of Engineers,

I oppose the construction of a coal export terminal in Longview, Washington, which would transport coal on trains and ships through the Pacific Northwest.

The destructive impacts on our oceans, our air, public health, and the rest of the environment are too heavy a price to pay for some coal tycoon's increased fortune.

The proposed terminal would have significant negative impacts throughout the Columbia River basin from coal dust, diesel pollution, and vessel traffic, degrading area freshwater and marine habitat, and imperiling the health of the area ecology. The directly resulting increase in coal pollution would significantly worsen climate change, ocean acidification, mercury pollution, and threaten the survival of our critically endangered salmon runs and our resident orca population.

I urge you to consider these impacts in the scope of the Environmental Impact Statement.

In addition, I request that you stop all proposed coal export terminals in the Pacific Northwest. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Jaylen Schmitt 2407 NE Mason St Portland, OR 97211-6443
