I am very concerned about the proposed project to build a coal terminal at Longview. The cumulative impact of hundreds of trains each week using the rail lines along the Columbia River is certain to change the quality of life along the route. Impacts to health, especially for children and sensitive elderly people, are perhaps most important and should be studied thoroughly and objectively. Health of the marine aquatic systems adjacent to the route will also be endangered and must be studied. While perhaps considered only an inconvenience, the traffic impacts of long and frequent trains at grade crossings will in fact have a negative economic impact and must be evaluated. As a ferry user where the dock is at a railroad grade crossing, I can attest to such impacts with our current lower number of trains. And as an active participant in an aquatic reserve program, I am aware of the importance of maintaining and improving healthy habitat for shoreline sea life, and would not want the kind of degradation escaping coal dust is likely to cause, let alone a spill.

Please include these concerns in your environmental review and studies.
