U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Washington Department of Ecology representatives,

Please allow me to comment on the Millennium Bulk Terminal and the increase of train traffic from Montana to the Washington coast. Idaho communities should be included in the environmental review because of the impacts of this proposal. The health of our children and families that live near the railroad tracks could be jeopardized from coal dust escaping from the coal cars, combined with diesel particulates from train engines. The mercury from coal fired plants in Asia travel back to Idaho, pollute our waterways and make our fish unfit to eat. The health and quality of life we cherish here in Idaho should not be put into jeopardy for the sake of some jobs at the Millennium Bulk Terminal. The increase in trains will definitely have a severe negative impact on wildlife. Right now more wildlife is killed by trains then killed by vehicles on the highway. If the plan is to send forty one mile long coal trains a day from Montana, through Idaho, and on to the Washington coast, then there will definitely be an increase in wildlife train collisions. The issues I just mentioned above are just a few of the potential negative effects a project like this would have on the health of our communities and wildlife. Sincerely, Tim Patton, ASLA
