U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Washington Department of Ecology representatives,

Please adopt a broad scope when reviewing the environmental impacts of the Millenium Bulk Terminal, including the impact of coal dust in the waterways and lakes of North Idaho, our most valuable resources.

Idaho communities should be included in the environmental review of the Millennium Bulk Terminal. The impacts of this proposal will stretch from the coal mines in Montana to Longview, Wash. Coal dust escapes coal cars and, combined with diesel particulates from train engines, could diminish the health of our children and families who live along the railroad tracks. Coal dust can also weaken the railroad tracks, increasing the risk of derailments. The cumulative impacts of this and other coal export proposals should be considered. The climate impacts of burning 44 million tons of coal a year are significant and will hasten the rise in global temperatures, droughts, wildfires and floods. Mercury from coal-fired plants in Asia travels back to Idaho to pollute our waterways and make our fish unfit to eat.
