Nov 6, 2013

Decision Makers

Dear Makers,

I strongly oppose the construction of a coal export terminal at Longview, WA, which would transport coal on trains and ships throughout the Northwest.

[The preceding text is not mine, but that of the Union of Concerned Scientists. I agree with & support that text's intent & object. But I disassociate myself from its diction, grammar, syntax, and style.

The following text is mine.]

This proposal would harm Columbia River communities. The proposal would (a) increase congestion & noise with greatly increased coal-train traffic, (b) pollute the region's air and local waterways, (c) hurt the region's businesses, and (d) delay emergency responders by blocking train- track crossings. It would damage aquatic ecosystems and fishing areas of the Columbia River, harm human health, increase tanker traffic and shipping accidents and spills, expand strip-mining in Wyoming and Montana, and worsen climate-change.

Include these many negative effects in the Environmental Impact Statement.

Sincerely,

Dr. Leonard R. Jaffee, Professor of Law Emeritus Leonard R. Jaffee, Professor of Law Emeritus 1865 Umpqua Rd Woodburn, OR 97071-2440
