I appreciate the opportunity to add my voice to that of others in supporting the environmental study for the proposed port at Longview. The scoping will present a clear picture of how Millennium Bulk Terminals will proceed in opening and operating this port and the economic, environmental, and social benefits of this project are deserving of approval.
When considering the extent of the EIS, we should keep it to what is actually affected - Millennium Bulk Terminals site in Cowlitz County. These trains are no different than the coal cars we've transported through our state for many decades. In reality, not one ton more of coal will be used globally because of U.S. exports, and the net gain in greenhouse gas emissions is insignificant. If we don't build these terminals, energy suppliers will just look elsewhere for their supply!
The scoping to evaluate Millennium Bulk Terminals proposed Longview project should be kept within reason. This plan will be a positive economic stimulus for local businesses and other retail businesses. Please move forward with the process in a timely manner. It's the fair thing to do.
Sincerely, Donald Haas Minerhaas1@aol.com
