U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Washington Department of Ecology representatives, the proposal for a terminal used to collect coal for shipment to Asia represents the greed of the coal and oil industry. There is no thought for the communities where these"coal trains" would pass through. The environmental impact to the local communities should be considered. Coal dust diminishes the health of children and families living along the railroad tracks. Chances for derailments increase due to the increased traffic and to coal dust actually causing a weakening of the tracks. The environment will heat up from the burning of the coal and mercury floats back in the atmosphere to Idaho from the coal fired plants in Asia and further pollutes our waterways and fish.

Most proposals have risks and benefits associated with them. Risks for communities and the environment are clear, but where are the benefits?

The United States should not contribute to pollution from foreign countries you, as protectors of the waterways, and ecology should turn this request down.
