My name is Nicolette O’Connor. I am a homeowner (Vancouver, WA 98661) a recreational kayaker and hiker. Most importantly I am a retired high school teacher who is passionately concerned about our children’s, children’s children’s quality of life.
We do not live in a vacuum. The decisions we make today--especially the Millennium Bulk Terminal's coal export project in Longview, WA--impact not only our quality of life, but the quality of life for future generations.
I respectfully request that the Washington Department of Ecology and other agencies to do a broad review of the impacts of exporting coal through the region and through Longview.
I also request that the environmental review study the following marine impacts.
•Marine Impacts from Coal Unloading
The amount of coal dust and particles that will be ‘lost’ during the off-loading of the coal at the terminal site needs to be calculated and a study needs to be conducted as to how this foreign material will impact the life cycle of marine plants and animals
•Marine Coal Dust from coal piles
The amount of coal dust flying off the coal dust piles needs to calculated and a study needs to be conducted as to how this foreign materiel will impact marine plants and animals
