On behalf of Waterkeeper Alliance, we the undersigned have numerous concerns regarding the proposed Longview coal export terminal.
We ask that the scope of the Environment Impact Statement:
1) Take into account every community impacted by the mining, transport and burning of coal;
2) Analyze the impacts to the climate, including ocean acidification, from the coal life-cycle facilitated by this project;
3) Quantify the opportunity costs of this fossil fuel infrastructure with regard to jobs lost in renewable energy; and
4) Analyze the impacts to human health from the life cycle of coal facilitated by this project.
Waterkeeper Alliance is a coalition of 209 member organizations who are working in their communities to protect their watersheds. Waterkeepers from Alabama to Washington to India and China, are all fighting negative impacts from the coal industry. Coal is by far the largest polluter of the world's waters, and we oppose any export facility that would threaten public health or the environment.
