Newcastle, Australia is home to 3 coal terminals. A University of Newcastle study has revealed terminal workers have cancer rates 2 to 3 times that of local New South Wales citizenry.* In a 23-year study, 63 of 859 workers developed cancer. An advisory is now recommending workers undergo testing for the disease. A West Virginia University study found cancer rates to be 15% near mountain top removal coal mining sites.** This was twice the rate of other local areas. I am concerned that these studies reflect the dangers to which the terminal workers and our Longview citizens will be exposed. Please consider these studies when conducting a Comprehensive Health Impact Assessment. * http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-08-27/pwcs-study/4916280 ** http://blogs.wvgazette.com/coaltattoo/2011/07/27/new-study
