I am 76. My wife and I have children, grandchildren, and great-grand children in both Oregon and Washington. I write to support the citizen calls for the widest, most thorough analysis possible on the Longview coal proposal. Two points: 1) the children. The carbon budget work of the Potsdam Institute points to a threshold of about 14 years before we break through the two degree celsius "cap." It's a simple exercise to list everyone in our family, with their current age—and then ask how old each will be in 14 years, and under what imaginable conditions they will live if we continue to burn GHG at BAU level. Longview is BAU, and therefore qualifies as insane. 2) The same goes for the strictly local impacts of the fossil fuel trains: dust and all-species health, traffic, jobs. This proposal will poison all living organisms, including our own, will disrupt the economy of towns along the route, and will yield a net LOSS of jobs. The proposers of this project, along with the proposers of the other fossil fuel projects in the Pacific Northwest, are truly deserving—of a long sojourn in either Limbo or Hades. Thank you.
