Submission Text
I am a professional environmental writer who moved cross country to Portland, Oregon to be near the epicenter of the environmental movements for my livelihood. For this reason I am against the proposal "to construct and operate a marine terminal for export of coal in Cowlitz County, Washington." The Columbia River is a highly ecological sensitive, sublimely beautiful, historically rich, national treasure which needs to be kept in reasonably ecologically healthy condition. This already protected river is irreplaceable to the green development of the Pacific Northwest and betrays the values of the local community. I relocated to Portland where there is a "critical mass" of environmental activity, green institutions and protected green spaces. I am against this proposal because moving to the Pacific Northwest is my investment, alongside the potential ecological destruction which could be caused both locally and globally if this proposal were to be put into practice, not to mention, perpetuating the global climate crisis. Please do the right thing and veto this proposal and preserve the Pacific Northwest's greatest economic asset---a clean environment! Thanks very much!
