I came to the hearing from Salem, Oregon, but gave my ticket to someone more eloquent. Before the open period for comments closes, however, I want to take a chance to share my concern. I have been studying the effects on the permeability of the soil after coal dust situates on the gravel around train tracks, leaving a situation where the rails these trains would be run on would be compromised and made less safe for repeated, heavy trains. I love the Columbia River, and would like the permitting process include "No Permit" as an option. It is strongly opposed by anyone aware of the environmental effects, and I hope the other written comments are running that way. When I kept score it was 4:1 against the coal train being allowed.
