Please consider the effects of sending coal to China as well as the effects of shipping this coal via train to Longview. The trains are long and will cause people to have to wait for the trains to pass before they will be able to get through many intersections. If there is an emergency minutes matter. Also, our roads in Washington are already overcrowded and much freight and business is affected by slowing traffic. The coal trains will just make the current situation even worse.
Many current jobs may be affected and cannot be replaced by the fewer jobs created by exporting this coal to China. You need to scope out number of jobs that will be lost compared with the few jobs gained.
Environmental issues are many as the coal trains move through sensitive areas and coal dust is lost along the way in our rivers and streams and already acidified Puget Sound. We cannot risk greater damage to our waters. Oysters are already having a hard time growing shells as babies. We have a large fish and shellfish industry in our State. We cannot hurt this industry with more pollution.
Finally, the coal we send to China will come back to our State's air as greater carbon pollution. We are harming the people in our State as well as the people of the world. We cannot afford the Longview Terminal. There are other alternatives.
