Dear U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, WA Department of Ecology, and Cowlitz County Commission:
Here is why I am adamantly opposed to your grossly short-sighted and greedy construction of coal export terminals in Longview, Washington... 1) Continuing to use coal as an energy source assures that catastrophic climate change will become virtually certain. 2) ALL those we love, including our children, will most certainly be doomed to insecurity, misery, and suffering within a few decades, if not a few years. 3) Coal is a dirty and dangerous combustible fuel that coal companies would put in open rail cars to travel through our communities and on massive cargo ships through our marine waters, fishing grounds and recreation areas. It is my obligation as a father, husband, son, brother and citizen of the planet to resist the forces that are so powerfully destroying us.
The horrible and awful truth is that our planet will not be able to sustain human life much longer. The inhuman kind of blind greed that powerful companies like Ambre Energy and Arch Coal flaunts can blind otherwise good people both intellectually and emotionally. It is not enough to say that you are only the messenger. The Army Corps of Engineers, Department of Ecology and the Cowlitz County Commission are doing the bidding of the small select elite that will plunder, loot, pollute and exploit without a hint of compassion except for the need of their own further growth of wealth and power. Are you really so willing to carry their water as "only the messenger?" The mania for ceaseless economic expansion and exploitation has become a curse and death sentence for all of humankind. I urge you, please consider your plans to move forward with this project. Find your intellectual and emotional soul and consider your options carefully.
Sincerely,
Matt Morrison
