Dear U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, WA Department of Ecology, and Cowlitz County Commission:
Please do not construct a coal export terminal at Longview, WA .
Open rail cars filled with coal will travel through communities, onto massive cargo ships and through marine waters, fishing grounds and recreation areas. Transport of coal will increase congestion and noise, pollute air and local waterways, harm existing businesses, and delay emergency responders. It would also damage aquatic ecosystems and fishing areas on the Columbia River; harm human health; increase tanker traffic, shipping accidents and spills; expand strip-mining in Wyoming and Montana, and escalate climate change.
Coal export threatens the health, public safety and economic vitality of our communities.
Please consider these impacts in the Environmental Impact Statement.
