To Whom It May Concern:
Since I am unable to attend the hearing in Pasco, WA on Oct 1 to discuss the coal trains I am writing to express my opposition to the trains. Since this is a scoping meeting to find out what people what to have studied below is my list:
*The effects of coal dust to the ecology of the areas the trains will be traveling through. What happens to plants, insects, birds, fish, etc as the dust settles and is passed up the food chain. *Health effects to the people living along the route? *How well is BNSF prepared for derailments along the Columbia River? Who pays for the clean-up and the long term impact on the columbia river ecosystem? *BNSF says the coal trains will bring jobs - really? How many LONG term jobs? Yes there will be construction jobs initially but once infrastructure is built then how many jobs will be left in the communities? *Who pays for the new over or underpasses? What is that cost? *Finally - does China really need our coal. Just recently they have decided to slowdown the construction of coal plants - due to the awful air pollution that is sickening larger populations in China.
Thank you,
