Submission Text
Dear U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, WA Dept. of Ecology and Cowlitz County Commissioners, I want to voice my STRONG opposition to the construction of a coal export terminal at Longview, WA. I personally live only four blocks from the train tracks running through Missoula, Montana. As I write this, I'm listening to yet another train rumbling through my what-used-to-be peaceful neighborhood, blowing it's loud horn. The train traffic has increased substantially this past year. Hearing a train blow its horn no longer generates nostalgia but irritates the senses and causes undo stress. Not only are we subjected to 500# of coal dust per loaded car, we have trains idling at stations emitting carcinogens from diesel fuels. We also are breathing pollution from coal burned in China returning via wind, and are woken up regularly from blaring train horns ALL night long. The noise pollution ALONE is detrimental to our health. I've yet to mention the impact burning coal has on climate change increasing the number of forest fires in Montana which creates MORE air pollution and costs taxpayers a ton of money spent on fighting fires. Please consider the long-term repercussions mining and shipping coal has on human lives. Please do not base your decision on money. It clouds sensible judgment. Thank you.
