I am not a resident of Washington, but I live close to the Columbia River Gorge and the transportation of coal through the gorge will affect Oregonians as well.
The U.S. Corp of Engineers has stated that it will limit the scope of their environmental assessment. This is an unwise decision, as I have stated above the affects of large amounts of coal transported through the gorge affects the environment and people outside the initial transport area.
Please consider addressing the environmental effects and the ultimate affect on humans. I am a Respiratory Therapist who also has asthma. The potential respiratory effects will be significant. Please consider the number and the lengths of trains passing through small communities. Please consider the loss of coal and coal dust along the travel points of the trains. How will this increase affect water and air quality?
