A virtual CONSENSUS OF SCIENTISTS agrees that he climate crisis is VERY REAL. Scientific reports (such as the recent report issued by the United Nations' International Panel on Climate Change -- IPCC) keep issuing SEVERE WARNINGS. SCIENCE SHOWS THAT THE CLIMATE DISRUPTION IS GROWING MUCH WORSE MUCH FASTER THAN PREVIOUS REPORTS HAD PREDICTED.
We are approaching "TIPPING POINTS" where CLIMATE DISRUPTION WILL TRIGGER ADDITIONAL DISRUPTIONS THAT WILL FEED ON THEMSELVES AND LEAD TO CATASTROPHE worldwide for weather, environments, human health, food production, and massive crises causing MILLIONS OF REFUGEES AND WARS IN MANY PLACES AROUND THE WORLD.
What does this mean for the coal export proposal you are considering?
It means that THE SCOPE OF THE PROBLEM ABSOLUTELY INCLUDES THE GLOBAL CLIMATE CRISIS!!!
It would be extremely foolish and short-sighted to think that the scope is limited to Longview, Washington.
YOUR AGENCIES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSESSING THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS, SO YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST CONSIDER THE GLOBAL CLIMATE CRISIS.
If you fail to do this, history will condemn you as short-sighted and/or corrupt.
The world's climate can no longer tolerate burning fossil fuels at anywhere near the rate we have been burning them during the past several decades. THE WORLD NEEDS AN IMMEDIATE AND SHARP REDUCTION IN CARBON DIOXIDE POLLUTION.
We need to STOP exporting and burning coal and oil.
We need VIGOROUS AND RIGOROUS conservation measures and alternative energy with the amount of industrial reorganization that the U.S. did to mobilize for World War II.
Anything short of that would doom the planet.
YOU MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR A GLOBAL SCOPE OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS, WITH THE WORLDWIDE CLIMATE CRISIS FRONT AND CENTER.
