MBTL Coal Export Terminal EIS
Dear U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and WA Dept of Ecology, EIS,
I strongly oppose the construction of a coal export terminal at Longview, WA.
Dumping coal dust from Wyoming through Spokane, Pasco, the Coumbia Gorge, Vancouver and Longview would have serious health impacts. Increased rail traffic would also cut communities in two and tie up rail capacity which our state needs for the movement of agricultural crops, and industrial products. A significant percentage of the mercury produced from burning coal in Asia would come back to us on the wind. Finally, burning coal is a major factor in global warming.
I urge you to consider these impacts in the scope of the Environmental Impact Statement.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Norm Osterman
