Dear of Engineers,
I oppose the construction of a coal export terminal in Longview, Washington, which would transport coal on trains and ships through the Pacific Northwest.
The proposed terminal would have significant negative impacts throughout the Columbia River basin from coal dust, diesel pollution, and vessel traffic, degrading area freshwater and marine habitat, and imperiling the health of the area ecology. The directly resulting increase in coal pollution would significantly worsen climate change, ocean acidification, mercury pollution, and threaten the survival of our critically endangered salmon runs and our resident orca population.
As a resident of NE Portland, Oregon, I live 6 city blocks from the railroad tracks that serve the trains traveling up and down the Columbia River. The automobile and truck traffic delays due to train traffic is inconvenient now, but would be absolutely horrendous if the dozens of trains per day increase, in both directions, scheduled to be implemented with this proposal were allowed. But this devastating proposal would be life threatening to humans, fish and wildlife and the ecology.
I urge you to consider these impacts in the scope of the Environmental Impact Statement.
In addition, I request that you stop all proposed coal export terminals in the Pacific Northwest. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mike Myrick 6730 NE 22nd Ave Portland, OR 97211-5357
