MBTL Coal Export Terminal EIS
Dear U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and WA Dept of Ecology, EIS,
I oppose the export of coal through Longview or any other U.S. port.
The surge of coal trains coming from Montana and Wyoming to Washington State ports, carrying some 150 million tons of coal a year, will create horrific local and global effects. This pillaging of the public commons for the short term profit of multinational mining corporations is absolutely against the interests of the public and future generations.
The dirty coal is destined for China and will come back to us as acid rain and climate chaos. The Big Coal Industry would turn us into a neo-colonial extraction economy. Big Coal is trying to sell us out with a false promise of "thousands of jobs." They'll walk away with short term profits and we'll be left with black lung, a poisoned environment and the costs of mitigation and cleanup.
The volatile market tells us that a giant coal terminal is not a worthy investment.I strongly oppose the construction of a coal export terminal at Longview, WA which would transport coal on trains and ships throughout the Northwest.
I urge you to consider these impacts in the scope of the Environmental Impact Statement.
