Oct 2, 2013
U.S. Corps of Engineers
Dear of Engineers,
Owing to their serious negative environmental impacts, I oppose the construction of proposed coal export terminals in the Pacific Northwest, and specifically the proposed Millenium terminal in Longview, Washington.
Burning massive amounts of coal anywhere would in itself worsen climate change. Movement of the coal long distances over the globe - whether via train or ship - and then burning it - would be even worse for both global climate and the local environments through which moved.
The proposed terminal and various others would each have significant negative environmental impacts - from vessel traffic, diesel and coal-dust pollution, and degraded stream and marine habitat, throughout and beyond the Columbia River basin. These impacts would threaten the survival of endangered salmon runs and resident orcas.
These impacts must be considered in scoping of the Environmental Impact Statement.
Sincerely,
Joseph Weinstein 4000 Linden Ave Long Beach, CA 90807-2717
