DearJennifer Moyers, Acting Chief and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, WA Department of Ecology, and Cowlitz County Commission,
I strongly oppose the construction of a coal export terminal at Longview, WA which would transport coal on trains and ships throughout Northwest United States of America! If allowed by you, this proposal will negatively affect my community. Coal train traffic will increase congestion and noise, pollute our air and local waters, create financial hardships for existing businesses, and delay ambulance & EMT response to save lives! It would also damage aquatic ecosystems and fishing areas on the Columbia River, harm human health, increase tanker traffic and the potential for shipping accidents/spills when negotiating the locks and waterways.
I urge you to consider the full range of impacts in the scope of the Environmental Impact Statement. There is much to lose which money and politics cannot correct once damage is done. Ask yourselves: am I willing to live adjacent to the railroads and waterways, am I willing to clean my home, yard and vehicles daily because of the coal dust, as Port Edward, Canadians have had to do? Then vote using your best judgment for humanity NOT financially. Thank you, Judie Champie, RN
Thank you
