Submission Text
The Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs, a federation of 45 organizations in seven western states, has passed a resolution in opposition of transporting coal in open rail cars through the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area. This also applies to any of the communities in Washington and Oregon that would be impacted by the increased volume of rail traffic as well as the air and ground pollution resulting from such activity. Coal pollutes when ever it is burned and that pollution spreads world wide by prevailing winds. To supply product to foreign countries that continue to ignore the impact of the pollution from coal is counter to the best efforts to clean up air quality and lessen the impact of carbon emissions world wide. Please do not have Oregon or Washington participate in such a environmental degradation program that impacts so many for the benefit of the few that profit from this plan.
