Coal shipments can be regulated in the state of Washington, but once they leave our state for asia we loose all control of their use. The use of coal in power generation plants creates more co2 and heavy metal emissions that are released into the atmosphere which will be returning to the northwestern United States. Our comparative advantage lies in our clean environment and we may loose much of that with the release of these emissions that will surely return to our state. This is a big price to pay for a few hundred permanent jobs. I oppose shipping more coal from the state of Washington.
