From: Dan Leithauser [mailto:dleithaus@gmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, September 17, 2013 12:24 PM To: Butorac, Diane (ECY) Subject: Fwd: Coal train traffic

Ms. Butorac, I want to go on record indicating my objection to increasing the number of coal trains running north-south from Seattle to Bellingham. I live in Marysville, WA. I object with two primary concerns. Traffic congestion and noise have increased in recent years due to more train traffic.

For traffic, critical access to I-5 is interrupted by the main north south rail line, congesting traffic at all intersections up and down the line. This congestion can take an hour to clear at the most used intersections, eg, State Avenue and 88th St NE-- and not just at "rush hour". More train traffic will cause more congestion.

Noise pollution is just as much a concern as the pollution you can see or smell. There is not a location in Marysville that does not suffer as a result of every train blowing their horn at every crossing. If you want to sleep without interruption, windows have to be closed -- and I live 4 miles away from the line -- even then there is no guarantee you might not be awakened by a particularly loud and/or long blow on the variety of horns these trains are equipped with.

I do not like to object to business growth and jobs, but unless the traffic and noise concerns can be addressed, I will continue to object to any increase in the number of trains moving (anything) up through Marysville.

Sincerely,

-- Dan Leithauser 5018 119th St NE Marysville, WA 98271
