Sep 16, 2013

US Army Corps of Engineers, Cowlitz County, Washington Department of Ecology WA

Dear Washington Department of Ecology,

Please accept these scoping comments for the environmental impact statement for the Millennium Bulk Terminal (MBTL) proposal for Longview, WA.

All I can say is that the Columbia River Gorge should be protected from the harm of coal trains: their noise, their diesel pollution, and the spreading of coal dust multiple times a day. This is a National Scenic Area that is supposed to be protected from these kinds of degrading actions. It is not only a national treasure, it is a uniquely northwest statement of who we are: people who love natural beauty and want to protect it. Thousands of people come each year to see this symbol of a state who cares about its natural places. If you're going to run trains, run them someplace else that does not have the delicate balance of natural ecosystems that the gorge does. Only a thorough environmental study can determine the extent of the damage that would be caused. No decision should be made until this is done.

Sincerely,

Mr. Ray Wood 3126 NE 11th Ave Portland, OR 97212-2233 (503) 249-2957
