MBTL Coal Export Terminal EIS

Dear U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and WA Dept of Ecology, EIS,

As a representative of US Citizens, it is your charge to listen to all the information on both sides of a controversial issues like the coal trains and terminals. As an active voter, I strongly oppose the construction of a coal export terminal at Longview, WA which would transport coal on trains and ships throughout the Northwest. My home in Edmonds is already impacted by these coal trains, and will be more negatively affected with additional trains being projected.

Not only will these trains affect population breathing (I have breathing problems already) but it will also increase congestion and noise polluting our air and local waterways, harming existing businesses, and delaying emergency responders. The damage to our ecosystems and fishing areas on the Columbia River, the harm to human health, the increase tanker traffic and the potential for shipping accidents and spills, the expansion of strip-mining in Wyoming and Montana are all incalculably negative for our state and for climate change around the world.

I urge you to consider these impacts in the scope of the Environmental Impact Statement.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Gayla Shoemake
